Studying the Status of Malay Muslim Women Utilizing Qalam Journal Database

This study is to analyze the status of Malay Muslim women in the middle 20th century utilizing Qalam database. In Malaysia and Singapore, the interest of the previous studies on this theme were mostly concentrated on post-independent period with framework of nation state and this has made women study at decolonizing period very scattered in view of research timespan and topics. This situation makes it difficult to understand how were the actual status of Malay Muslim women in decolonizing period and reactions as well as debates of Muslim community toward the subject. The study of middle 20th century is, however, crucial because many topics of primary importance in this subject such as marriage, education and economic participation were lively discussed at this period. This study has been trying to make out for this defect of previous studies with utilizing Qalam database. Qalam is a monthly journal published since July 1950 until October 1969 and it is possible to make analysis on this theme through 20 years of decolonizing as well as independent periods.
